Akash lives in a village. There is a shortage of water in his village. The villagers decided to save each and every drop of water during the rainy season. They decided to implement this idea as soon as it starts raining. The news gets published in the newspapers. Akash receives a letter from his cousin Pooja in this regard. He gives a quick reply.

The word conservation means save something. It may be any natural resource like water, energy, soil plants and animals. Conservation of water means conserving water in ponds, wells and in the fields to raise the level of ground water.

संरक्षण शब्द का अर्थ है कुछ बचाना। यह कोई भी प्राकृतिक संसाधन हो सकता है जैसे पानी, ऊर्जा, मिट्टी, पौधे और जानवर। जल संरक्षण का अर्थ है तालाबों, कुओं और खेतों में पानी को बचाकर भूजल स्तर को बढ़ाना।

We are living in a challenging era. Ruthless cutting of trees and destruction of forests have resulted in scanty rainfall. This leads to the scarcity of water almost everywhere which is adversely affecting the cultivation of crops. How can we be happy with thirsty soil if the fields do not get plenty of water the production of food gets affected and the villagers start migrating towards cities. The cities get overcrowded resulting in air and water pollution.

हम एक चुनौतीपूर्ण युग में रह रहे हैं। पेड़ों की निर्मम कटाई और जंगलों का विनाश कम वर्षा का कारण बन रहा है। इससे लगभग हर जगह पानी की कमी हो रही है, जो फसलों की खेती को प्रतिकूल रूप से प्रभावित कर रही है। अगर खेतों को पर्याप्त पानी न मिले तो प्यासी मिट्टी के साथ हम कैसे खुश रह सकते हैं, इससे खाद्य उत्पादन प्रभावित होता है और गाँववासी शहरों की ओर पलायन शुरू कर देते हैं। शहरों में भीड़ बढ़ने से वायु और जल प्रदूषण होता है।

The government has motivated all the sections of the society to come forward and save each and every drop of water. We are the witness to the emptied and dried up rivers, ponds, wells and tubewells. We should not sit silently. Under the Water Conservation Programme we are trying to harvest rainwater at different levels.

सरकार ने समाज के सभी वर्गों को प्रेरित किया है कि वे आगे आएं और पानी की हर बूंद को बचाएं। हम खाली और सूख चुकी नदियों, तालाबों, कुओं और ट्यूबवेल्स के साक्षी हैं। हमें चुपचाप नहीं बैठना चाहिए। जल संरक्षण कार्यक्रम के तहत हम विभिन्न स्तरों पर वर्षा जल संचयन करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।

The farmers will be made to store water in their fields by building Medh or Bunds around their fields. Similarly, water bodies like wells and ponds will be deepened and cleaned. The old dams will be repaired and new dams will be constructed across the rivers so that we can conserve more water. What a wonderful scene it will be when wells, ponds, and rivers will be full of water and the children will be seen swimming in the ponds of their village. The tubewells will automatically get recharged and will continue to give us water throughout the year.

The tyoobwelz wil otomatikalie get recharjd and wil kontinue to giv us wotar thruout the yeer.

किसानों को अपने खेतों के चारों ओर मेड़ या बांध बनाकर पानी जमा करने के लिए प्रेरित किया जाएगा। इसी तरह, कुओं और तालाबों जैसे जल निकायों को गहरा और साफ किया जाएगा। पुराने बांधों की मरम्मत की जाएगी और नदियों पर नए बांध बनाए जाएंगे ताकि हम अधिक पानी संरक्षित कर सकें। क्या शानदार दृश्य होगा जब कुएं, तालाब और नदियाँ पानी से भरे होंगे और बच्चे अपने गाँव के तालाबों में तैरते दिखेंगे। ट्यूबवेल स्वचालित रूप से रिचार्ज हो जाएंगे और पूरे साल हमें पानी देते रहेंगे।

I would like to mention that the government alone cannot do everything. Similarly, shouting slogans will not be of any help. Water is essential for everybody. So, everybody including we children, should participate in the Water Conservation Programme. I have seen all the people voluntarily coming forward and working hand in hand for this noble cause.
